Gas Station Photo Shoot

17 Jan

This is an old photo that I shot, but it’s still one of my faves, so I thought I’d share.

The rain forced us inside, but luckily my bride-to-be was ready with AWESOME ideas!!  The gas station attendants looked at us like we were crazy for wanting to shoot there, but we think it turned out great!!  These two are super photogenic and fun too, which just makes things so much easier!!

And here’s the shot we got just before the storm:

Did a little blue sky action, like I talked about in my previous post, and played up the effect of the wind on her hair.

How to turn the sky blue

How to Make the Sky Blue in Photoshop (CS5)

So, I know there’s probably multiple ways to do this, and the one I’m about to show you probably isn’t technically right.  {Also, I don’t have one of those easy YouTube videos to watch as I click on each thing step-by-step, so screen shots will have to do} :0P

This is a picture of me and my family…

b&a

A lovely friend of mine too this picture for me with my camera.  She did an excellent job!  Such a great picture SOOC.  I just love a little POP of color though~~ Had to whip it up!

It was VERY overcast today, it actually works out great for this kind of enhancement.   I didn’t actually follow all the steps I’m about to show you to get the sky this color.  After the “multiply” step, I just used a FRESH Action by Paint the Moon called Mr. Blue Skies and then added the burnt edges with an MCP action called MCP Burnt Edges I.  BUT since not everyone has actions, I thought I’d show a way you can achieve this manually. (click on the photos to enlarge)

Step 1: I open my images in Camera Raw. I went ahead and darkened the “Lights” just a bit.

1

Step 2: Right-click on the “Background” layer and “duplicated layer”.

2

Step 3: Change layer to “multiply”.

3

Step 4: Add a “vector mask”.

This is so you can get a black paint brush and paint over the areas you do NOT want “multiplied”.

Step 5: Paint areas you do not want affected by layer.

6

What I did in this photo was paint with the brush at 100% opacity on us and then changed to about 50% as I painted the rest of the road. The reason I use a vector mask instead of just erasing the multipy layer is so that if I accidentally go over something that I want to stay multiplied, I can go back over it with a white brush to change it back; I feel like I have a little more control than when using the eraser tool.

Step 6: Right-click bottom layer and “merge visable”.8Step 7: Creat a new adjustment layer and select “Color Balance”.

For this one I just kinda played around with all three, Shadows, Midtones, and Highlights and just moved the bar over to blue a little less than half way on each one {You might want to play with the green, etc too! I used another action over the whole photo which is why the blue in my final photo is not the same as shown here}.

Step 8: Paint with a black brush, over the areas you want to remove the blue hue from.

Then, merge layers like I did before.

You can also use the burn tool to intensify the blue and manually add the burnt edges effect.logo

{This won’t work on all washed out skies… sometimes it seems like the blue hue just wont add much blue; there has to be a little blue to work with to begin with it seems, but like in this picture, it looked completely white before I did the multiply layer }

Happy Schmanksgiving!!

Happy Schmanksgiving!

So I haven’t posted in a while; I thought I’d do a little post about Thanksgiving..   We had a great one!  All of my immediate family came to my house this year, plus the aunt, uncle, and cousins!!

I don’t have a whole lot of stuff to entertain with.  I don’t have 15 matching plates and/or place mats, and we couldn’t find a cute tablecloth big enough to cover our 8-ft folding table, so I got an idea!!We covered the tables in brown paper (from the mail/boxing aisle at

the store) and let everyone create their own place setting!!  Luckily I have some artistic fam-members!

I also had previously made some of those cute paper pumpkins I’d seen on pinterest.  So we decided to make cute little pumpkins for each person’s place setting with their name on it!   I found the little tags in the stationary section in the store; I think they were like price tags for garage sales….

I scrapbook, so I had a whole book of really cute/coordinating paper to use.  I like to use a different pattern for the stem and curlies than the pumpkin.  These paper strips were about 4-5 inches long to make this size pumpkin.  I used a hot glue gun to attach the paper, but I have used tape before.

I forgot to take a picture of the whole table;  you’ll just have to imagine the fabulous result! :)

ViSalus PD Paradise 2012

ViSalus PD Paradise 2012

So I should have blogged about this a long time ago, but for some reason I didn’t even think about it!!  And I’m really just blogging about it now because I want to post pictures! LOL

This past July I was fortunate to get to go to the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas!!! I had never been to the Bahamas and was SO excited!!!  What made it even more awesome was that it was FREE!!!

That’s right; ViSalus sent me to the Presidential Paradise in the Bahamas for making Presidential Director for the company.  They paid for me and my husband’s hotel stay and they reimbursed me for my flight!

The first night we got there, we enjoyed a champagne toast at sunset!! It was so much fun!! The co-founders, Nick, Blake, and Ryan were there too just hangin’ out!  It was SO great, but what I was REALLY excited about was the PIRATE PARTY the next night!!!

After hanging out all day at the resort, riding slides and hanging out in the lazy river and the beach, they threw us an AMAZING party!! Tons of free food and free cocktails; the waiters were fun, mermaids to get a picture with, and the DJ was SO awesome!!

The hubby and I with two more Presidential Directors on our team…. and some random mermaids :)

We had a blast!  I can’t wait to go on another trip like this with some of my team!!  We will get to go again when my hubby makes PD too!  We still have a free National Director Retreat in L.A. waiting for him as well!!

I am so blessed to be a part of such and amazing, rewarding, and FUN company!!!  I feel like I get to be my crazy self with this group.  We work hard, but we PARTY hard too- and that’s what it’s all about!!

ViSalus Vi-Shape Pancake Recipe

I don’t know where I found this ViSalus Vi-Shape Pancake Recipe but I don’t take full credit!  These are some of the best pancakes and they require no flour, just oatmeal and your favorite protein mix!

Vi-Shape Pancakes

3 scoops ViSalus Vi-Shape shake mix
1 cup quick oats
1 unsweetened applesauce (original recipe called for 1 egg)
1/2-1 mashed banana
Unsweetened almond milk

( I just add enough while mixing until it looks like pancake batter)

You can also add dark chocolate chips, blueberries, etc. if you would like but the banana adds a lot of sweetness!  I have also frequently topped with greek yogurt w/fruit if I don’t have bananas, but usually I just eat plain.

Today I added a couple of heaping tablespoons of canned pumpkin and some pumpkin spice!  Super yum!

I heat up the pan to just about medium and really watch.  They don’t really bubble like normal pancakes so be careful not to burn.  I make small pancakes so they don’t fall apart when you try to flip them.  But, even if they get all torn up they still taste the same! :)   This recipe makes about 6 small pancakes so I usually eat about 3 and then save the other as a quick snack for later.

ViSalus Recipes

These ViSalus pancakes are a great way to get in your healthy carbs pre-workout while still getting the ViSalus nutritional shake mix that I have to have in the morning to get me jump-started!  There are tons of recipes out there that use the ViSalus Vi-Shape so that you are not restricted to just shakes!  The shake mix is so versitile because you can use it in hot or cold recipes and it still retains its nutritional value, mixes great, and tastes great!

In the future, I will be posting some more handy ViSalus Vi-shape recipes!

ViSalus | How I got started Promoting the 90 Day Challenge

ViSalus | Body by Vi 90 Day Challenge

This is my first post for my new blog.  I starting blogging just about a week ago, but I have found a new “home” and hopefully a permanent one.  My intention for this blog is to help inspire others to take part in my passion: health and fitness.

Just a little over a year ago, I knew very little about nutrition and I didn’t even realize that I knew very little.  Although I have never been obese or even overweight, I was living an unhealthy lifestyle and was a sugar addict!  My husband was also overweight with no desire to change it.  Then, April 2011 we were introduced to the ViSalus / Body by Vi Challenge.

I began the Challenge with the intention of losing about 10 to 15 pounds.  I had been working out for about 3 months, trying to get back into shape before summer.  I noticed some family members had lost weight and they told me about ViSalus, so I decided to give it a try.  I signed up without even tasting the stuff!  I smelled the shake mix; it smelled wonderful, so I knew I would like it.  I began drinking 2 shakes a day in the place of meals, while still snacking and eating one normal meal a day (I usually cheated on the weekends, just a shake for breakfast).  I lost 12 pounds and 3.5 inches my first month! It was like it just fell off!  I had more energy and felt great! I also made my husband a shake every morning for breakfast.  He grumbled in the beginning, saying how adding a meal to his daily routine (he did not eat breakfast) would cause him to gain more weight, but in about 2 and a half weeks he dropped 15 pounds by ADDING a meal and not adding ANY exercise to his routine!  My husband and I were both astonished that a healthy shake would have such drastic results.  We both began researching nutrition and thus began our passion to pursue a healthier lifestyle.

With this blog I plan to share some of the things that I have learned through research.  I plan on sharing my newest health and fitness goals.  I also plan on sharing some of the struggles I have had with changing my lifestyle.  Most lifestyle changes are not going to happen over night; it is a progressive quest.  You have to start small, and you have to find that catalyst to get you going.  The ViSalus – Body by Vi 90 day Challenge was that catalyst for me, and over a year later, I am still using and enjoying the ViSalus products.
